History of the association
The history of Pohjois-Karjalan Matkailu ry is also the history of tourism in North Karelia. The association was founded in 1893 during the Karelianism movement. Active citizens wanted to promote their homeland and its people and make traveling easier.
The association opened transport routes, printed maps and brochures, and established a tourist lodge in Koli. Over the years, it has managed a tourist office and a campsite and organized ski buses to Koli. The association is still needed to bring people together and develop new ideas.

North Karelia Tourism Associations
The tourism association has a low threshold for joining, and in addition to tourism companies, companies in the trade and service sectors, associations, artists, craftspeople, and active municipal residents are also welcome. Instead of establishing their own associations, operators can set up sub-divisions of Pohjois-Karjalan Matkailu ry.
Heinäveden Matkailuyhdistys
Heinävesi tunnetaan Valamosta, mutta matkailijalle on tarjolla myös kiinnostavia muinaismuistoja. Yhdistys järjestää retkiä ja tapahtumia.
Liperin Matkailuyhdistys
Liperin yhdistys perustettiin keväällä 2022 yhteistyössä kunnan kanssa. Tavoitteena on kehittää Liperin matkailua ja yhdistää matkailutoimijoita.
Möhkön Matkailuyhdistys
Möhkö, Suomen itäisin kylä, sijaitsee Ilomantsissa Petkeljärven kansallispuiston vieressä. Yhdistys ylläpitää mohko.net-sivua ja yhdistää kylän toimijoita.
Ilomantsin Matkailuyhdistys
Ilomantsin tunnistaa messuilla ja toreilla yhdistyksen kokoamilla osastoilla. Yhdistys tekee näyttävää Ilomantsin esitettä ja vastaa visitilomantsi-sivustosta.
Outokummun Matkailijayhdistys
Yhdistys vastasi Uuteen nousuun -matkailuhankkeesta vv. 2021-2022, joka tuotti visitoutokumpu-sivuston. Kesällä 2023 yhdistys oli OKUfestin pääjärjestäjä.
Kolin Matkailuyhdistys
Yhdistyksen perustama Kolin Matkailu Oy vastaa koli.fi-sivustosta, matkailuneuvonnasta, kehityshankkeista ja yritysten palvelujen myynnistä.
